Obituary of Stanley Theodore Girod

Stanley Theodore Girod died March 12, 2012. A man of integrity and service, his fun loving spirit will be missed by friends and family. He was born and raised in Berne, Indiana, August 17, 1926. After high school, he moved to Oregon where he set chokers for a lumber company before serving as a corporal in the United States Air Force. In 1949, he married Barbara Jean Halvarson. He attended Willamette University and Lewis & Clark College where he earned a BS in Education; he received a Masters in Education from University of Oregon. He taught elementary school in Baker, Oregon then served as a teacher and principal for the Lake Oswego School District for 31 years. His Christian faith was central to his daily life. He volunteered as a Lion’s Club member, he drove for the Lake Oswego Senior Center and he led tours for Odyssey Club. Stan was also known as a story teller and music lover. He played coronet in the Lake Oswego Community Band, sang in university and church choirs and acted in the musical “South Pacific”. Stan liked playing golf throughout his life. Friendsview Retirement Community in Newberg became part of his friendship circle and care during the last years of his life. He is survived by his wife Barbara, their four children Mark, Doug, Laura and Eric, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held March 31st at 2:00pm at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 15751 Quarry Road in Lake Grove. Reception to follow at the church. Directions from I-5: Exit 292B off I-5; Left on Kruse Way, Lake Oswego; Right on Carman; Go to round-a-bout; Exit round-a-bout onto Quarry Rd; Stay straight, pass Waluga Park; 15751 Quarry Road.
