Although we've only known Irene, Charlene and Les for about four years since we moved here from Michigan, we feel as though we've been friends forever. We've gotten together for breakfast, tea, and have enjoyed having them visit us in our home. Since we are neighbors, we're just a hop and skip, and a jump over the fence to see them whenever we're outdoors. We will miss Irene and the wonderful way she had about making us feel like part of the family.

I have so many memories of Aunt Irene that I will always cherish. So was so happy and sweet and fun. I am glad to have known her and glad I got to spend so many nights with her when I was a kid curled up on her couch with one of her cats while we worked on our word puzzles together. I loved it when I got to go play penny Bingo with her at her clubs. She taught me all the fun card games that I know. I remember a couple of times she took me to the movies and we saw Clueless and Batman Returns, I am sure they were movies I picked out. I would play with my Barbies on her front porch in her cat condo. She would send me a shoe box full of goodies that I looked forward to every Christmas. I am just sorry I never made it out to Oregon to visit her after they moved from LA. Later, she would offer so much support on the telephone and we would have great chats. She will be missed greatly. ~Angela Clark, Niece Louisville, KY

Aunt Irene - I will miss you. I wish we had not lived so far away from each other and could have each other more often, especially so my wife and boys could have gotten to know you better. I will never forget the summer that I stayed with you back in the 70's while I was in high school. You took me everywhere from Vegas and along the entire coast of California from San Francisco and the Redwood Forest down to San Diego. We had so much fun together and included some of the best memories that I often reminisce about. You're fun loving and kind spirit will live on forever. Char & Les - I am sorry for your loss and that I could not be there to share memories with you.

I have the best of memories when our families were together and not so far apart. Since my father , your brother, Bob passed away, we have all parted our different ways, not for any particular reason but because communication between us was never kept up. I am sorry for that. Les & Char, my sympathies to you both. I miss you and wish you both the best. I will always remember the beautiful lady your mother was. I loved her too. Linda

Sorry to be so late in writing this short memorial to the best sister there ever was. The day after she died I was rushed to the hospital and was there till January 22nd. I was recuperating till almost the end of last month. I would need quite a few pages to explain how wonderful and caring she was. If I ever had a problem, she was the one I would call and we would chat and chat till my problem was solved or understood. I had a candle lit for her in Lourdes, France and other religious places I am always in contact with. Candles will be lit for her and masses said as long as I an alive. From her loving brother, Herman (Scott).

My belated condolences to Irene's family. I have very fond memories of growing up with Irene as a constant fixture at 3240 Wilshire Blvd; where her determined will and accurate professionalism kept Laykin et Cie on track with it's vast index card based inventory management system and other functions which she oversaw as the firms controller. On behalf of all of the Laykin family we wish Irene peace in heaven.
