Fair Winds and Calm Sea's my Captain .by Elizabeth Robertson on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at 3:36am.When the Posting came of Ron Rasmussen's passing I couldn't hold the tears back. The man had became such a part of my family my grandchildren called him "Pirate" Ron for they were just sure he was one because he had a boat. I remember so clearly the first time I met him at the Moose, it was a Thursday afternoon game I went in early for lunch and Ron and this lady named Virginia were there having lunch as well. Time ticked on and I got to know them and Thursday lunch meeting was something that just was looked forward too. To tell the truth, I believed Virginia when she told me she and Ron had a "thing" going on! Boy did she get me good when the truth came out!! I was so new at playing poker and he was patient enough to take me aside and teach me some basics. Poker 101 by Ron, I learned and caught on to the game. The list of things I will remember is endless, his laughter! his love of animals ! Fishing fishing oh did I say fishing. Playing pinancle with him was a new experience! I didnt know there was so many rules my dad never taught them to me! I will never forget him looking a truck over to prove a point that it was not made in America! He was Union to the core, for that I do appreciate. I got the chance to thank him for taking Bill fishing and being patient with how slow he moved. The laughter when Harley and Kylie would climb on him wrestling away, I swear he was having the most fun of them all. Respect, you always knew where you stood with Ron he didn't mince words. Love, those he loved he loved fully and I am happy to have witnessed this. Seahorse's , the name says it all. Tuna casserole, if there was a potluck we knew what Ron was bringing! Teasing him for being stuck back with that ole time rock and roll! The debate on how music was better back then! Mako, and his home made dog food for her, he was proud of that receipe. He had the only TV in town that I didn't need my glasses to beable to see it, it is big! Fishing stories, endless fishing stories and how he made them come alive. Watching him and Bubba banter back and forth, so much respect and love for each other seen in those eyes. Debating the taste of diet coke compared to diet pepsi, I dont think that debate ever ended between us. I knew when a certain person walked in because I could see it in his eyes I didn't even have to turn around. The day he was hospitalized I got to see him before he went to Portland. I had my cell phone dialed it, once the voice was heard, the three of us in that room heard him say "I love you " he dug deep for those words I saw that and I am grateful I was a witness to them, as I believe Vanessa and Molly are too. So many people leave foot prints on our hearts and we never tell them, I am glad he knew he had made an impression on my life. I swear at times in a noise Doc's or Moose I can hear his voice. When I had my left total knee, not a day went by that he did not come to the hospital to see me, the nurses thought he was my husband. He always visited anyone that was hospitalized. I will hold dear to all the memorys I have and go forth in life living it fully as he did. I know he is in heaven fishing with all those that went before him. I know this coming blessing of the fleet will hold more meaning then the others for this time we lay the wreath for one of our own. When ever I see a Seahorse I will think of him and smile for he lived and I was given the chance to know him. .
