Obituary of Ronald D. Morris
Ronald D. Morris, Sr. passed away after a lengthy illness on September 15, 2019. Ron was born August 17, 1944 to Clarence "Tex" Morris and Lottie M. Culwell in Burkeburnette, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Carole and his two sons, Ronald Morris, Jr., of Gresham, Oregon and Daniel Morris of Knightsdale, North Carolina. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Ronald Morris, III, Marissa, Nolan, Aiden, Hannah, Benjamin and Lamuna Scovia Samantha Morris. Ron is also survived by three brothers, Jimmie of Kennewick, Wa., Gerald of Williamsburg, Kentucky and Johnny of Bellingham, Wa., and a sister, Sharon Sattelberg of Roby, Missouri, twelve nieces and nephews and seventeen great nieces and nephews.
After graduating from high school in 1964 Ron served in the US Navy as a Radioman and married Carole Stephens in 1965. They would have celebrated their 54th anniversary October 30th. When Ron's service with the Navy ended he was a sales representative for Farmers Insurance for five years.
Ron became a law Enforcement officer in 1973, being one of 13 on the Gresham Police Department. In 1981, he served as Chief Criminal Deputy for Creek County Sheriff's Department, Sallisaw, Oklahoma. In 1987 he returned to Oregon working for the Molalla Police Department then to Multnomah County Sheriff's Department from which he retired in 2006, ending a colorful and rewarding career.
Retirement was filled with work at the Gresham Golf Course, lasting over 10 years where he worked as a Marshall and in the Pro Shop. He enjoyed meeting new people and working with staff, as well as, the pleasure of playing golf.
Ron loved sailing with his family, taking three week vacations to sail the Canadian San Juan's. He traded his sailing days for a motor home and continued lengthy vacations on the Snake River in Hell's Canyon, Oregon with many camping and fishing friends. Fishing was a must and that he did with gusto.
An avid sportsman, his pride and joy being his two sons, arranging his work schedule so he could be at their football and wrestling practices, matches and games. In fact, he was their coach. After his sons graduated, he went on to be a football official.
Ron will be greatly missed by family, friends, co-workers and many others whose lives he touched.
