Obituary of Bruce Edwin Elia
Bruce Edwin Elia
May 21, 1938 – September 7, 2019
Bruce, aka “Puluke” was born in Portland, Oregon on May 21,1938. He graduated from Mapleton High School in 1956, and went on to serve in the United States Army Reserves.
Bruce worked as a CNC Machinist at Boeing of Portland playing an essential role in building flap tracks for the Boeing 747 aircraft. After 38 years he retired to pursue his love of working with beautiful exotic woods, from which he designed and built highly sought after jewelry boxes and humidors. His skills as a fine craftsman added a uniqueness and quality that other artisans strive to achieve. He caught the attention of The Oregonian and was featured in the newspaper, showcasing his beautiful workmanship. Each box signed, “Puluke’s Boxes” which means Bruce in Hawaiian. Hawaii being his Heaven on Earth.
When not creating beautiful boxes Bruce loved being outdoors, and most times you’d find him Trout & Bass fishing, snorkeling in Maui and in his earlier years waterskiing with his family.
He spent his summer weekends camping with his family, living for the moment and having fun. His family was his priority; and one of his biggest joys in life was teaching his children life skills. He was the most loving, caring, protective father and husband.
Bruce is survived by his wife Joyce of 38 years, his 3 daughters: Brenda, Sherri, and Angela; his 5 grandchildren: Nicholas, Breanna, Skyler, Savanna, Josh and 4 great grandchildren: Jackson, Mason, Elliana, and Theodore.
Bruce’s impact on the world has touched many lives and his memory continues to be a loving and lasting one. Please join us in celebration of his life.
