Obituary of Joseph Patrick Sweet

Joseph Patrick Sweet Nov 17, 1934 - Sept 14, 2019 Joseph Patrick Sweet 84, of Milwaukie passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday Sept 14, 2019. He was born in Los Angeles on November 17, 1934 to John H. Sweet and Francis McCafferty. After leaving CA he spent most his life in the greater Portland area including Molalla and Oregon City. His biological parents passed away while he was still young and he was taken in and raised by Chester and Orpha Griffith of Mollala (then Canby) who raised him as their own. Joe worked for Portland General Electric for 42 years and also built many homes in the Milwaukie area in the mid 70’s through the early 80’s. After retirement, he spent several years volunteering at the Francis Center in SE Portland and enjoyed traveling with his wife Cecile, working in the yard, wood working, and socializing with friends and family. He was married to Cecile Evon Sweet and they recently celebrated 57 years together. He is survived by his wife, Cecile Evon Sweet, son Daniel Sweet, daughters Pamela and Laura Sweet, his brother Jim Sweet (Carolyn). His older brother John Sweet (Marilyn) passed August 14, 2019. Joe was a friend to all and treated friends as family.He loved to have a good time, always had a smile and only saw the good in people. He loved playing cards, camping, working in his yard, woodworking and had a love for nature and animals. His favorite animal was the Rhinoceros and he loved the color purple. He had a great sense of humor and was always ready with a bad or even better… a dirty joke. He and his wife Cecile took many trips together including several trips overseas. They both loved to jump in the car and take a road trip to explore, hit a casino, or take longer trips all over Oregon as well as California and Arizona where they took yearly trips to San Francisco, Palm Springs, and Yuma. There will be a celebration of life at the Oregon City Elks on November 17, 2019 from 1pm-4pm. He will be interred at Zion Memorial Park in Canby, Oregon next to his beloved foster parents Chester and Orpha Griffith.
