Obituary of Kathleen Susan Howell

Kathleen Susan Howell

April 12, 1950 - March 19, 2021

Kathy Howell, lifelong Oregonian and Tigard resident, tragically passed away on the evening of March 19, 2021 after a brief, but excruciating, battle with cancer.

Kathy (White) was one of twins born to Theodore “Ted” and Eileen (Herchowski) White on April 12,1950 in Portland, Ore. She graduated from David Douglas High School in 1968 and shortly thereafter married her husband of nearly 50 years, Alan Howell, on Feb. 22, 1971.

Above all, Kathy was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend. She was extremely dedicated to her career with the Internal Revenue Service and once she retired in 2011 after 35 years of service, she continued to lead local Tax Payer Volunteer efforts for the AARP.

She was adventurous; a world-traveler, touring destinations such as Panama, Costa Rica, Belize, Peru, Ireland, The United Kingdom, Italy, Vietnam, and countless trips to Mexico. Throughout her life, she also traveled frequently all over the U.S. for both professional and personal reasons, often visiting her son, daughter, and grandchildren at various stages of their lives. She found joy in tending to her beautiful garden, was an avid sports fan, and most of all sought out every opportunity to create special memories with her family, hosting on holidays, and being wholly present for every milestone.

Kathy is survived by her children, Jason Howell (Katie) and Jennifer Tyler (Matt); grandchildren, Nathan, Aidan, Ryan and Lila Howell and James, Austin, and Isla Tyler; and twin brother, Kenneth White. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.

Her children and grandchildren were her ultimate pride and joy. She will be missed every single day, and remembered for the amazing mom, grandma, and sister that she was.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday April 8, 2021, at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland followed by a Celebration of Life for Kathy and Alan Howell at a later date.
