This is our thought - that we want to remember Mikki in the music she shared with us, the dancing she shared with us and in the humour, enjoyment and pure joy of sharing our lives with us: the kindness, the beauty, the ‘presence’. Thank you, too, to you all across the ocean, Janet, and all the groups of Mikki's friends, who cared, kept up spirits, kept in touch with us all and cared so well for our good, shared friend Mikki.
with love from Jacky and Alan Williams, and all of the dancers, musicians, and friends from Chesterfield, Derbyshire, UK.

From Sue Seyl, Mikki's OHS colleague and friend
Mikki Tint was a stalwart member of the Oregon Historical Society Research Library staff for over 25 years, from 1983-2008. She first worked as a cataloger in the OHS Film Archives, helping get control over a large, rich, and highly-regarded collection of films and video. Mikki and OHS Film Preservationist Michele Kribs were instrumental in creating the Association of Moving Image Archivists, then hosting an international meeting in Portland for 100 attendees. Mikki later joined the staff of the OHS Photographs Dept. as Assistant Photographs Librarian. Researchers, staff, and the general public seeking historical photographs would first be greeted by Mikki’s welcoming smile. Her keen perception and knowledge of the collections enabled Mikki to assist users in an efficient and friendly manner. Her work with the photographs of famed Portland Egyptologist Lindsley Foote Hall inspired Mikki to travel to Egypt. After retirement, Mikki continued to contribute by researching and writing the Oregon Historical Quarterly’s OregonScape feature from 2010-2016, highlighting interesting and sometimes obscure facts from Oregon’s past.
A lifelong Portlander, Mikki earned her Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of Oregon, followed by a Masters in Library Science.
Outside of OHS, Mikki developed an interest in taking photographs, going on photo outings with OHS Photographer Evan Schneider and OHS Manuscripts Librarian Kris White, and experimenting in the home darkroom the three built. Mikki also had an entrepreneurial side, in the form of her successful beading business Beady Little Mind, resulting in many staff wearing her lovely beaded creations. With her best friend since college, Janet Trystad, Mikki volunteered at the Portland Center Stage and for other theater productions.
Mikki’s greatest devotion, however, was to the Wild Rose Garland dance team, of which she was a founding member. Mikki’s love of traditional English dance was her inspiration for the group, which first performed in 1995. Dressed in historical costumes and holding brightly-decorated half hoops, Mikki, Janet, and the team, performed a variety of dances, including honoring the centuries-old tradition of heralding the arrival of spring or summer by performing at dawn on May Day.
After her retirement, Mikki ensured that the personal connections forged among OHS staff continued by organizing monthly pub gatherings called Second Fridays. Recalling her kindness, generosity, quick wit, and the twinkle in her eye, we raise a glass to our beloved colleague and friend.

Mikki and I were college roommates and on all the peace marches back in 1969 - 1970's. We were in the recycling movement at Southern Oregon, and Environmental awareness to clean up Lake Erie. Many a night in the college dorm we would rap with other students about how we could help the Environment. We also ended up at U of O were we got a cool old house and were all housemates together with Becky. We sure had fun with a big costume party for our housewarming and creating our own "Murder by Death" that we acted out with a script, clues, etc. There were so many books and whodunits in the house we had to use the edge of the stairs to include them all.
Mikki and I were founding members of 'Wild Rose Garland" English Traditional dance troupe, using at first grapevines with real flowers to dance with, but when the flowers flew off and hit the audience members we went to winding sllk flowers on to beribboned PVC pipe. We hauled these to England where we had a splendid trip performing with Chesterfield Dance Teams. Our English friends took as all over including legendary Chatsworth House and the Blue John mines. Onto the Lake District and Liverpool which added so much to our trip.
Mikki wrote many dances for our Garland team as she had a Mathematical brain the could figure all that out. She also was so instrumental in editing our book/manual "Dancing Flowers" that the Country Dance and Song Society has for sale. Her English degree and writing skills really came to the forefront with that huge project!
Mikki and I took my girls at age 4 and 6 to Disneyland which was a riot! So much fun there. She really was a part of our family and my gals, MacKenzie, Kate and granddaughter Maegan will miss her. In the later years I would go to Holiday dinners with Mikki and her brother, Lee.
We loved watching British mysteries and programs and would call each other at the end of a show to sort out what we didn't quite catch. I was so glad that I was able to help Mikki out at her house before the brain surgery and coordinate her doctors afterwards. I searched for a good place for her to be in with her needs which worked well for her to the end.
Mikki was such a bibliophil and we talked books often but with her wry sense of humor which I will miss.
You are still her in my heart Mikki.
love, Jan/Janet
