Obituary of Paul Mark Ehrlich

On Tuesday, March 10, 2020, Paul Mark Ehrlich, loving husband and dedicated father passed away at age 77 at his home in Beavercreek, Oregon.

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Scarsdale, NY, Paul built lifelong relationships with his schoolmates, graduating from Edgemont High School in 1961.  He maintained those friendships for over 60 years and loved to talk about his youth and the enduring friendships that were maintained by reunions he happily traveled long distances to attend.

After serving in the in the Peace Corps in Pohnpei, he obtained a PhD in history and continued to do research and act as a speaker on German colonial history in Micronesia, the focus of his dissertation.

Paul was a renaissance man, combining his skills and passions to become a successful cabinet maker, farmer, documentary filmmaker, and copywriter.

His lifelong love of learning included teaching himself guitar in high school and continuing to hone his skills in workshops, with friends, and while relaxing at home playing his favorite genres of folk and blues.

Paul was also deeply invested in baseball and softball both as a fan and player.  He enjoyed teaching his daughters to play catch at a young age and bringing them to professional games.  He played on senior softball teams into his 70s in CA and OR.  Wherever he went, wherever he played, Paul made friends.

In retirement Paul lived a quiet life of great joy with his wife in their house in the woods of Oregon, cooking, entertaining company, reading, and talking to family.  He built a shop for his woodworking, often specializing in black walnut and created many pieces for those he loved.  He will be remembered for his quick laugh, infectious smile and his gift of storytelling.

Paul will be lovingly remembered by his wife Gail; daughters Rachel (Paul) and Simone (Kaveh), grandchildren Zoe and Sebastien; brother Bob; Gail's children Jessica, Teresa and Mark, and many other beloved friends and neighbors.

In accordance with Paul's wishes he will be privately cremated.
