Paul and I reconnected at the forty-somethingth reunion, the first one I'd ever attended, and at each reunion after that. We had the common experience of Peace Corps in Asia, and compared the Malayopolynesian languages we had each learned, which was fascinating for us both. We both loved woodworking, and spent hours talking to each other on the phone about the book he wrote on the huge stone constructions in Pohn Pei. When Trisha and I stayed last winter (2019) in the Portland area, we met wonderful Gail, and Paul and Gail had us over for a great dinner at their house under tall snow-covered Douglas firs. When we moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon this year, we all had plans to see each other a lot, but then Trisha's health and COVID-19 interfered, and a week after we started to plan a dinner at our place, Paul was gone. In the early years, I especially remembered Paul from Edgemont seventh grade science with Mr. Foraker -- for his gravitas, his good humor, his enthusiasm, his kindness. I miss him every day, regretting that he is no longer part of our lives. I am attaching a beautiful walnut desk Paul made, the image of which I keep on my desktop.

Paul was a great softball teammate. When on an opposing team, I always looked for him to share a few laughs. He was a gentleman.

What a great guy with a strong mind set to do his very best on
the field. He would get mad at himself but never to his fellow
teammates. Always a gentleman and friendly to everyone. Have
played with for a very long time and will miss him.
My sincere condolences to his family.

Paul was my teammate this past summer.A great player who always gave it 100%.I remember he always wanted to perform well and would get mad at himself when not doing so.Then words of encouragement from his teammates snapped him out of it,and sure enough, next time up,a sharp line drive,or a stellar fielding play.So now Paul, step between those white lines up there and have a great season.R.I.P. my friend.

Where to begin? Paul and I shared so many memories from elementary school until his very sudden, tragic death. In high school we spent literally hours just talking -- serious stuff, stupid stuff, hopes and dreams -- Paul was a big talker! It was a time of great introspection and our friendship helped me through many personal problems. During that time Paul took up the guitar and I remember so often he would sit on our Livingroom floor, strumming away, in his own little world. My father would always say "What's with this guy." He didn't appreciate raw talent! Paul stayed with me during our class reunion in PGA and after partying one night we stayed up talking until 3:00 am. He slept late that morning while I had to host breakfast at 8:00 am. Needless to say I wasn't at my best! As friends we supported each other through divorces, disappointments, joys and sadness. It was a comfort to know he was always there for me. Meeting and marrying Gail brought sunshine into his life; he exuded happiness in our later conversations, usually as he drove home from softball practice. I'm sorry I never made good on my promise to visit them in Oregon. It sounded so wonderful. True friendship is a thing to be cherished, and I always will.

Paul and I were planning to get together as we shared a love for guitars in addition to softball. Every time we saw one another we would exchange pleasantries and talked about guitars and playing music. He loved his Martin acoustic, and was learning to play the blues. We have lost another one of the truly good guys who helped advance senior softball. RIP my friend.

I only knew Paul from senior slow pitch softball. He always got in the way of my good hits, and then he would smile that great smile. Batter up!!

Paul was one of the good guys whether playing on his team or against him. A true
sportsman who made everyone feel special when he was around. Last summer
Paul came over to Delta Park to visit with the senior softball family. I saw
him walking up the walk way about 200 feet away from the dugout where I
was sitting. Saw his happy smile and knew it was Paul who I had not seen
for a while. He approached the dugout and was immediately surrounded by
the senior softball family wanting to say hi and how much he was missed.
Come this 2020 softball season, I know we will be thinking good thoughts of
him every time we play softball at Delta Park.
We will miss his smile at Delta Park. Best wishes to Paul's family.

What deep sadness to hear that Paul's wonderful life was cut short by aneurysm. Cruel. Paul vibrantly lives forward, however, in the warmth all felt in his presence and in memories of good times spent with him by so many friends! I picture the way he listened, holding eye contact, affirming his understanding of whatever it was that was being said. And your obit is so full of truth - he was indeed a renaissance man. He didn't just work with wood, he thoughtfully worked specifically with walnut. He didn't just farm, he artfully pollinated and propagated his own seeds and cross varieties for next year's crop. Paul was so happy with you, Gayle - how lucky you were to have found each other. I remember his passion for folk music from even back in his days at Edgemont; I remember what an amazing ballroom Latin dancer he was at high school dances (did he still dance as an adult?). All of us who knew Paul are grieving with you Gayle, and send you love and support, and wishes for you to stay safe and well in this pandemic time.
