Obituary of Harold Ray Clinebell

Ray was born to James E. and Cora (Fessenden) Clinebell on their homestead near Halsey, Nebraska. Ray was the youngest of seven children. The family moved to Oregon in 1937, and settled in the Salem area. He graduated from N. Salem High School where he met his future wife, Judy (Julia) Hastings. They married in 1951. He began his lifelong career with Boise-Cascade that same year. He went to night school to obtain his electrician license. He was always fascinated with electronics, and as a young boy he built radios in cigar boxes. Ray and Judy spent much of their free time camping out in eastern Oregon, seeking old trails and dump sites where early pioneers were forced to lighten the burdens from their wagons. Their home told the story of their findings better than anyone else could-everything from medicine bottles to tin cups, blue enameled coffee pots, copper ware, arrow heads, old harness collars, etc. He loved to fish on the little north fork of the Santiam River, and pan for gold in the creeks. He searched for precious metals with his metal detector. He spent 45 years with Boise-Cascade, retiring in 1996. He was kept busy with the Christmas trees he planted on his property, but he and Judy were never able to enjoy the travel they planned for their retirement years due to declining health. Ray is survived by his wife Judy, son Dan, daughter Dianne Bish, and three grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Anderson of LaPine, and Ruby Williams Jones of Salem, plus numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews throughout the U.S. Interment is private.
