Obituary of Daniel O. Fong

Danny Fong was born in Canton, China but was primarily raised in San Francisco, California. He was in the U.S. Submarine Service, U.S. Navy, during WWII from ‘42 – ‘47 and in the Korean War from ‘51 – ‘53. In 1964, Danny moved to Oregon. He married Mariko Tabata in Vancouver, B.C. that same year. He worked for Trader Vic’s restaurants around the war and after his military service. His favorite things to do were spending time with his beloved wife at their island home on Gabriola Island, B.C., and meeting with fellow submarine veterans at functions with the U.S. Submarine Veterans and U.S. Submarine Veterans of WWII. Danny is survived by his loving wife Mariko and son, Sean Fong; both of Portland, OR. A military burial with honors at Willamette National Cemetery is scheduled for Friday May 11, 2012 at 11:30 am, followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at The Little Church – 5138 NE 23rd Ave in Portland from 12:30 pm – 4 pm. In lieu of flowers make a donation in Dan’s name to the Blueback Base Submarine Veterans PO Box 1887, Clackamas, OR 97015.
