Obituary of Ruth Elaine Rust
Tualatin resident, Ruth Elaine Rust passed away on March 19, 2012. Ruth was born to Winnie and Albert Rust in Audubon, Iowa on August 1, 1925. She graduated from Corwith High School, Iowa in 1943 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. Ruth then went on to James Milliken University in Decatur, Illinois for graduate work in Music Administration; and Westchester State College in Westchester, Pennsylvania where she took courses in Education. In 1962, Ruth graduated with a Master in Education from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
She taught Public School for 14 years and worked as a Church Visitor for 2 years. Ruth then began working with high school drop-outs and disadvantaged populations of New York City for 28 ½ years as a volunteer in a small private social agency and as an employee of the City of New York, Department of Employment. She had been very involved with Compassion International and sponsored children in poverty all around the World, including Tanzanita, Ethiopia, Bolivia and Indonesia. Aside from her hard work, Ruth enjoyed sewing, weaving, making jewelry, reading and attending music concerts. She was a member of Westchester Baptist Church in Chappaqua, NY and was a pianist, organist and choir director for 17 years.
Ruth is survived by her brother Albert (and wife, Dawn) Rust of Wilsonville, Oregon; sister Evelyn (and husband, John) Stanley of Peterborough, New Hampshire and sister Valeta L. Rust of North Branch, New York. Online condolences may be made at www.ANewTraditon.com, Crown Memorial Center – Tualatin.
