Obituary of D.L. Tom Miller
Born in Bloomington IL & moved to So. California 1951 Graduated Pacific High School, 1955, San Bernardino, CA and attended Valley College.
Tom joined the Air National Guard in 1955 and later enlisted in the 163rd Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron California Air National Guard, Ontario, CA. He was honorably discharged Nov. 1961.
Tom began his professional career with Goodyear Tire and Rubber, in southern California. In 1962 he moved to Eugene, Oregon with his wife Carol & young family, and worked for US Bank as Vice President of Marketing, providing training and Marketing throughout the Willamette Valley.
From the 1976 he was the Marketing Executive Vice Pres. of Willamette Savings & Loan, Milwaukie, OR and was instrumental in their growth through the acquisition of the Fred Meyer Savings Loan Association.
During this time Tom was active in the Portland Rose Festival, chairing and serving on numerous committees and brought the Hot Air Balloon Festival to their major event lineup. The Balloon Festival continues as a Tigard annual event.
During the mid 1980's Tom worked as an Advertising Account Executive with Richardson Associates and later as the Marketing Director for Portland General Electric, until 1990.
In 1991 he married Barbara Friesen and they established TEAM Inc., in West Linn, OR., providing OSHA Compliance Training; Event Management; Advertising; and Marketing services.
Tom, is survived by his wife, Barbara; three children: Darcy Millen, West Salem, OR; Greg Miller & wife Jeanne, Sequim, WA; Carrie Cresap & husband Jeff, West Linn, OR; sister, Sharon V Miller and mother Verna H. Miller, West Linn, OR plus five grandchildren, Tyler & Jordan Millen, Caity & Leanne Miller, and Jaquelyn Cresap.
