Gertrude Enid (Beaumont) Ostby, known as Enid, ended her life’s journey February 26, 2012. She was born June 3, 1920 near the small community of Evesham, Saskatchewan, Canada. Her parents were sodbusters and early settlers of the area. She spent her youth a child of the Canadian Prairie experiencing the challenges of rural farm life and the struggles of the Great Depression. After completing her schooling she moved North to the mining community of Flin Flon, Manitoba, Canada where she met and married Ebner James Ostby. In 1960 they moved to Sacramento, California where they resided for thirty years. Enid worked as a nurse and attended Sacramento State University where she earned a Bachelors degree in Correctional Work and Administration, and also a Bachelors degree in Social Science. She was a member of Assembly of God Church. She loved to travel, and ventured to England and Germany several times. In 1990 she moved to Newberg, Oregon. Predeceased by her husband, Jim, all eight of her siblings and her twin children Gordon James and Patricia Rose, she is survived by her son Donald J (Jan) Ostby of Portland, Oregon; three grandchildren Trevor, Tyler and Gina; three great-grandchildren Cailin, Ryder, and Tyler; and many nieces and nephews. She loved to write, and maintained correspondence with distant family members throughout her life. She also spent many a quiet hour composing poems and the words and music for hymns. A person of good cheer and gentle demeanor, she asked for little and gave generously from the heart. She enriched the life of all around her. Her ashes will be placed next to those of her husband at the Newberg Friends Cemetery. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Tualatin.
