Obituary of Hans Rapp
Hans was born in Schwenningen Germany to Martin and Emma Rapp in 1936. He lived in Germany until moving to Switzerland in 1954. In Switzerland, Hans worked and studied his craft as a tool and die maker. While living and working in Switzerland, Hans met his fiancé, Anna Luethi. Due to better job opportunities, Hans and Anna moved to South Africa in the late 50’s and were married in Cape Town in 1959. Hans and Anna moved to San Francisco in 1962 and it was there that their only child, Richard Rapp, was born a few years later. As a family, they loved to sail, camp and enjoyed water and snow skiing.
Hans and his brother Willi began their own business, Rapton Tool and Die, in 1973. After seven years, Hans decided to move the family to Gladstone, Oregon and Willi continued on in California.
In 1980, Hans started Northwestern Mold and Die in Clackamas, Oregon where he worked until his retirement in 2002.
Hans had the great ability to talk to anyone, anywhere, at anytime. Hans would always meet you with a large smile and a warm handshake. He made friends all over the world when he began to travel after his retirement. Hans loved to to travel through Europe, Mexico and the Philippines, many times traveling for six months at a time. It was in the Philippines that he met this second wife and travel companion Fey Escoza. Together, Hans and Fey travelled all over the United States in their fifth wheel, usually wintering over in southern California. Hans was a huge fan of Skat, a German card game, and would travel to all the tournaments where he would compete.
