Obituary of Geneva Mae Sturgill
Gene was born in Casper, Wyoming to Martin and Dorothea Nelson on January 30, 1918. She was raised in Portland, Oregon and attended Beaumont Elementary school and Grant High School. She married Jay P. Sturgill in Portland, Oregon on June 18, 1938 and together had 2 children, Jay Jr and Jill. Gene was a private secretary to the sales manager and a book keeper for Sturgill Instrument Company. She enjoyed needlework, sewing, knitting, baking, camping, hiking, boating, gardening, puzzles, creative writing and painting. She was a member of Rose City Presbyterian Church, Parkrose Teachers Parents Association and Lions Club Women’s Auxiliary. She passed away at home on March 1, 2012. She leaves behind her daughter Jill; daughter in law Janet; grandchildren Laura, Jayme, Jennifer and John; great-grandchildren Elliott and Astrid. She is preceded in death by her husband Jay Sr., and her son Jay Jr. There will be a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers you may donate in Gene’s name to National Parks Foundation.
