Celebrating Bill's life with fond rememberance of the many lives he has impacted as a colleague, mentor, and friend. I looked forward to Wednesdays each week as Bill would arrive to have lunch with Mary. During the Spring and Summer he arrived with roses in hand to give to us. He arrived early so the two of us could chat and catch-up. Your father and grand-father was a wonderful person and my heart, thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Several have spoken about Bill's kindness, which was legend. As one of his many many mentees, it was his practical wisdom that I cherished. He was able to function in an amazing array of political environments and still remain a man of integrity who was never afraid to tell you the truth. Perhaps keeping his sense of humor through it all was the secret...

My sincerest condolences to the family. Mr. Bill Neland was a kind, respectful and thoughtful man who, up until the end, spoke well of his family, friends and co-workers. Bill was famous for those beautiful roses, and also cultivating his "mentees" with the same care. My most recent remembrance of Bill was in the hospital a week prior when I had the opportunity to visit and see his face beam as I mentioned Cecil Burt, Leslie Hallick, Mary Kennedy, Ceci Hetrick and others. Though very ill, he still exhibited his sense of humor. He was a good man shall be missed.

Mr. Neland was one of the first of many that I met in my first job working for Pete Wollstein and Leonard Lasiter at OHSU. He was also one of my first mentors. I appreciated his sense of humor and he was a friend to many. My sincerest condolences. Julie North

Bill Neland was a man among men who was a true marine @ heart and left no one behind who was willing to seek advise or help. I was privileged to work with Bill at OHSU and to be mentored by him.He was always positive even when he disagreed with a plan and always willing to he there to support you as you worked thru an issue. His practical wisdom and insight was sought by many and have eleft an indelible effect on many facilities and managers in the State of Oregon. My condolences to the family. While Bill may have left us, our memories of his smile, roses, the good times we had with him and the love for his family will always live on

Like many among us, I regard Bill as a peerless mentor. Beyond integrity and leadership there was keen intellect and consummate communication skill. We could learn more in an hour lunch with Bill than in a post grad seminar. His generous sharing of his passion for art, not architecture, produced by architects endowed me with this affliction. Above all, no matter how snafu the action became, we could always make each other laugh our heads off. I miss Bill terribly, he'll I even miss his incessant fiddling with his nose. May he rest in well deserved peace. My best to his family.

Bill was my first civilian employer and I will always be grateful for his willingness to take a chance on me. He came to our wedding and was a great friend to Jean's father, Ralph. You will be missed.
