Dad's nick name for me was War Hoop and I loved him with all my heart & soul. Although we weren't rich he made sure we had the most wonderful childhood. Horses was a enormous part of his life and ours as well. Camping and riding the trails was one of our favorite vacations. I have many memories of the Chehalem Mountain Riders club that was based in the old school house on Mtn Top Rd in Newberg was just one of many organizations he contributed time to. His last love was building and maintaining trails & camp grounds through OET (Oregon Equestrian) with his love wife Vicki. He touched so many lives through his volunteering, he would be very pleased to see that his last project, a new riding area near Sisters is coming right along. I love you Dad and miss you horribly but I know you are in heaven with Vicki riding the trails. Happy Trails

When I step back and realize just how many lives my grandpa touched, I can't help but be in awe. He was more than just a family man, he was so deeply involved in everything he did. His passion for horses and the outdoors was something he devoted his life to. His latest venture was, of course, Oregon Equestrian Trails. Him and his wife, Vicki, really devoted themselves to it. Helping maintain the trails and horse camps around Oregon so everyone could enjoy their beauty. When we lost Vicki so suddenly, I feel like we lost a part of him as well. I will never forget all the times we went to spend the night with them at their home in Clackamas. We loved going out there, especially when we had a "girl's week" out there with our horses. What great memories. After Vicki passed, we offered to bring him to Montana with us on a friend's ranch for 2 weeks. He was hesitant to go, but he opted to tag along and we are SO happy he did. That trip is still to this day my favorite trip I have ever been on, and my fondest memory with my grandpa. I will cherish those memories forever. These last few years have been so heartbreaking, watching the strong man we all knew and loved wither away like that. It is just such a relief that he has finally gone home to spend his days back in the saddle again with Vicki, and their dog CJ tagging along, too! Dr. Suess once said "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." It's hard not to cry when you realize such an amazing man has left this world, but I know I will see him again someday. Happy trails, grandpa. I'll see you on the other side.

I miss you Uncle Jack. You gave me my first horse, Stardust. You were John Wayne and Elvis all combined in one! You taught me the love of horses that has lasted over 60 years. Breeding, showing horses and then the joy of trail-riding. What more could anyone want! Love of the outdoors, the peace when you see the beauty of God's country, great friends riding with you. Horses taught me responsibility, dedication and hard work. Thank you, Uncle. When we meet up in heaven, let's go trail-riding!
