Obituary of Reverend Hershel Dane Dunlap

Reverend Hershel Dane Dunlap was born May 30, 1927 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Emmit and Myrtle Dunlap. He passed into everlasting life to be with the Savior he trusted on July 28, 2009 at his home in McMinnville, Oregon surrounded by his loving wife, his three daughters, and his wife’s sister. As an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God, Rev. Dunlap pastored and ministered at churches in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, California, and Oregon over a span of six decades. A veteran who served during World War II, he achieved the rank of corporal in the United States Air Force. In 1947, he married his bride, Margie Louise Lankford Dunlap in Paris, Texas. They celebrated 62 years of marriage the 21st of May. Reverend Dunlap was preceded in death by both parents, his sister Bertha White, and two brothers, Ruiel and Calvin Dunlap, and a grandson, Lanty Huffman. He is survived by his wife, Louise Dunlap of McMinnville, Oregon, Linda Collins of Beaverton, Oregon, Patty Helige of Salem, Oregon, and Jodi Detrick of North Bend, Washington, as well as six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Beulah Trout and Nelda Caldwell of Clarksville, Arkansas, and Yvonna Bowles of Portland, Oregon. Reverend Dunlap dearly loved his family and especially delighted in the grandbabies. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid hunter who enjoyed traveling in his motor home and camping in the woods. In his last years, he especially delighted in their dog, Daisy, and laughing at her antics. The Memorial Celebration service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Valley Latin Assembly (formerly Dayton Assembly of God Church), 5th and Oak Streets in Dayton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Valley Latin Assembly and sent to PO Box 1294, McMinnville, OR 97128. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center, Tualatin.
