Obituary of Melvin Warren Davis
Melvin “SAM” Warren Davis, 68, passed away on October 28, 2011. Sam was born to Lee and Katherine “Shorty” Davis on December 31, 1942 in Fallon, Nevada. He was raised in Bonanza, Oregon and at an early age, he grew to have a passion for horses. Sam worked as a Jockey for many of his younger years, and later became an owner and trainer of thoroughbred racehorses for 40 years. Aside from horses, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Sam is survived by his son Larry Davis of Oregon City; daughters Myndy Parham of Oregon City, Debbie Schuster of Meridian, Idaho, Donnita Craft of Memphis, Tennessee, Susan Dye of Olive Branch, Mississippi, Theresa Davis of Grants Pass, Oregon; fiancé Heather Skeoch of Estacada; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Lee and Shorty Davis and sister Fern Davis.
A memorial service will on Saturday, November 12th at 1:00pm at the Turf Club at Portland Meadows Race Track (3rd floor). Monday November 14, 2011 Portland Meadows will hold a MW Sam Davis Memorial race in his honor. All that attends gets to be in the winners circle and have the option to order a win picture.
