Obituary of George Sayer

George Sayer passed away on October 9th, 2011. Born 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, George is survived by his wife Jean Sayer and his children, Laura Gallagher, Lynn Pierson, Lonna Sayer and Larry Sayer and his 5 grand children, Tiffany & Ashley Pierson, Skye Gallagher, Michael and Michelle Sayer. George graduated high school a year early to study at Columbia University. Served in the US Navy in World War II and in the Reserves for a few years with a rank of Lieutenant. After the war he completed his BA & BS in Electrical Engineering in 1950 at Columbia University. Completed a Masters of Math at Adelphi University in 1960. He was also in Mensa, the high IQ society. He received his Electrical Engineering License in 1957 from New York State, and Oregon in 1976. George worked at Republic Aviation, Arma, Grumman Air, Honeywell, Western Electric and Rogers Organ among others. George was an idealist and adventurer! In 1963 he moved his family to Mexico City driving through the Mexican mountains from Florida, but changed plans when they moved to Grenada, British West Indies. In Grenada he founded Sayer Electronics, opening daily with prayer and teaching electronics to many young men there. He also started a Sunday School in the Presbyterian Church. His health forced him back to the Eastern US. He moved his family to Hillsboro, OR in 1976. He firmly believed in an economical life style, writing a “how to” life style book. He did research on his own to invent a device to detect Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and a low cost hearing aid. He was a student of many languages and read the encyclopedia daily.
