Obituary of Dorothy Jean Morrell
Dorothy “Dee” Jean Morrell passed away on October 6, 2011 at the age of 74. Dee was born to Mary and Bernard May on June 15, 1937. She was raised in Lincoln, Illinois and attended Illinois State University. Dee moved to Oregon in 1959 and on October 30th, 1965, she married Virg Morrell at the Lake Oswego Methodist Church.
Dee was a strong business woman who supported many businesses. While she was involved with many companies, a few of her favorites were Nero and Associates Research Firm where she was a contract negotiator, Cole and Webber Advertising where she was an office manager, and Portland Public Schools where she was an administrator. She was active in bowling leagues and tournaments, and she enjoyed tennis and camping. She also enjoyed music and sang in many choirs during her youth and could be heard on the radio. Going to the symphony and theater was another pastime of hers. Last but not least, she was a Trailblazer and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Dee was also a part of many clubs and organizations and was a notary, a March of Dimes coordinator, a Girl Scouts volunteer and a supporter of IFAW and the Humane Society.
Dee’s survivors include her husband Virg of Lake Oswego; daughter Anji Preslar and spouse, Marty, of Portland; brothers Deane May and wife Jane of Atlanta, IL, Richard May and wife Lois of Toledo, OH, Robert May and wife Carol of Mt. Pulaski, IL; and sisters Mary Wilson on Lincoln, IL and Barbara Fink and husband Norman of Belleville, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers James “Jim” May and George “Bill” May and sister Helen Haseley.
A celebration of Dee's life will be held on Sunday November 6th from 2-5pm at the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, OR. Casual or Blazer attire is welcome.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Humane Society or the International Fund for Animal Welfare. Please RSVP by Nov. 1st to Marty at 971-570-4491. If you are unable to RSVP that is ok, please join us anyway.
Parking will be provide at the Garden Parking Garage at the Rose Garden Arena on Winning Way. Just mention you are with the celebration for Dee to the parking attendant if one is present. We will be in the Prefered Dining Area of the Arena. After parking in the Garden Parking Garage you will be at the buildings entrance on P4, enter the doors and you'll see a sign that reads "Lexus Club Level" walk through the double doors. The Prefered Dining Area will be on the Left.
