Obituary of Robert James Moccardine

Robert James Moccardine (Bob) was born November 6th 1950 in park falls Wisconsin to Francis and DeEtte Moccardine. He and his family moved to Gresham Or in 1954. They started attending Redeemer Lutheran Church shortly after and have been member ever since. Bob has two brothers, Ted Moccardine and Rich Moccardine and a sister Patti Moccardine Turner. Bob met his wife Sally Lovell in 1976 and were married at this very church September 9th 1978, 33 years ago today. Bob and Sally were blessed with two children, Matthew Moccardine and Mindy Floistad. Bob was extremely family orientated. He loved to spend time with his family going on hunting and fishing trips. He welcomed anyone in to his home, his door was always open. He treated all the neighborhood kids, John and Sarah, Brian, Karl, Tony, and Craig as his children. Bob loved his children very much and cared very deeply for their spouses. Erik Floistad, Mindy’s husband and Stephanie Moccardine, Matt’s wife were an important part of his life. He shared many stories with them and gave them both hard times but only because he loved them so much. He loved to hunt on Pine Mountain out of Bend. He started hunting there with his father and brothers then continued hunting there with his own family. He loved to camp and fish on the Clackamas River and Trillium Lake. He would spend hours drowning worms. He never cared if he got anything he just loved being outdoors. The beach was also one of his favorite places. He spent hours combing the beach for rocks and shells. As a child he stayed in cabins at Netarts Beach on the Oregon coast. It has always been one of his favorites. On September 9th 2008 Bob was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer and was given 6 months. Bob survived 3 years. Each day he took head on, he was always hopeful and optimistic; he never gave cancer a chance to ruin his life. He talked with others who suffered with cancer helping them cope and encouraged them to keep fighting. He was a brave and courageous man and was to the very end. Bob touched many lives with his jokes, lessons and stories. And his memory will live long in each person he met. You will be missed. He was a great father, loving husband, caring brother, nurturing uncle and courageous fighter. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 9th, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church at 795 E. Powell Boulevard in Gresham. A reception will be immdiately afterwards.
