Obituary of Virginia Mae Macauley

Virginia Mae (Rouse) Macauley December 3, 1916 - August 11, 2011 Virginia Mae Macauley, 94, passed away on August 11, 2011 in Tualatin, Oregon. Virginia Mae Rouse was born on December 3, 1916 in Scio, New York. She was primarily raised in Scio, attended one year of Bible College, and in 1937, she married Robert “Bob” Lloyd Macauley in Scio. Virginia loved to quilt. Her life was a long and productive one, during which she had an outstanding impact on many lives. Most recently she was recognized for her generosity to the Veterans Administration Medical Center. Virginia dedicated almost every day to quilting lap robes for our Veterans (up to 5 per week.) In her earlier years she and Bob helped establish the Dyke Street Museum in Wellsville, New York; rescued the small Scio Library from closing; and opened their home to many students at Roanoke Bible College. One consistent theme throughout her life was service. Traveling, Quilting and her Faith. Her adventurous nature and inquisitive mind led her to travel all over the United States and Canada. Just last year she drove across country with friends. As for quilting, it was her hobby and a way to share joy. She used to say “Quilting is my therapy – it keeps me going!” Some of her most shared memories of going back to the pond in Scio, N.Y. revolved around teaching young-up-and-coming quilters how to stitch their first quilt. We are thankful that she has left behind many treasures to remind us of her love and dedication. And finally, she held a strong love for our Lord. She shared this love with many through teaching classes at church or camp, or simply through daily interactions. She was a member of the Church of Christ. A memorial service will be held on October 8th at the Molalla Church of Christ, Molalla, Oregon. An additional service will be held on September 10th in Scio, NY at the Scio Community Center. Memorial contributions may be made to any Veteran’s organizations. Online condolences may be sent at www.anewtradition.com. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Tualatin.
