Obituary of William Eugene Dougherty

William Eugene Dougherty (Gene) passed away peacefully the morning of Aug 2, 2011. Born January 8, 1916 in Tenn. Gene was the youngest of five children all of whom have preceded him, including sister Ruth and brothers JohnB, Bruce & Edward. With the passing of his parents when he was nine years old, he was raised by his Aunt Cora and Uncle John in Montana. Gene had a great love of life and lived it fully. He served his country and was a Major in the Army. Gene’s chosen career was dentistry, attending the now OHSU School of Dentistry where he taught in the 1940’s. Generous and talented he gave the very best to his profession. With his captivating personal charm he had many, many friends. Always loving the great outdoors he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had his own airplane and was active in the AERO club in his younger days. He played golf and was a member of Columbia Edgewater and Waverly Country clubs. Gene enjoyed using his mind, loved card games and in later years became a master in duplicate bridge. We his children called him “the old Master” as he could fix anything. For 68 years Dad and Mother were together. A closer relationship will never be found. They are now together as Mother passed away just 23 days ago. We their children have so many fond memories of their guidance and love. We cherish the holiday gatherings and long adventure filled family vacations where we were all together. It was a joy being a family. Dad and Mother we love both of you and we will always deeply miss you throughout our lives. Thank you for all your hard work and guidance and love and laughter. With immense admiration and affection and love, Your children, Linda, John, Colleen, William & Patricia along with your grand-children Michael, Jeff, Scott, Stefan, Brandon, Lauren, Daniel, Timothy, Mary, Christopher, Tyler, & Shari and great grand-daughter Lilly Belle God Bless you both
