Obituary of Florence E. Mathews

Florence Mathews passed away surrounded by her family in Portland Oregon on June 27, 2011. She was born Florence Elnora Tyler on June 28, 1924 in Susanville, California; she moved to Gridley, California in 1941 as the young bride of Jack Kenneth Mathews. Ken and Florence owned K&D Auto Parts until selling it and retiring to a life of travel; they later settled in Idaho for a time before moving to Vancouver, Washington to be near family. Florence was a past president of the Gridley Quota Club and an officer in Eastern Star. She was a third generation native Californian whose paternal grandfather settled in Lassen County in 1851. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Kenneth, and daughters Sheila Watson, Myrtis (Mike) Moore, Nora (Tom) Elliott, Hattie (Stephen) Larrouy and Carrie (Harry) Freyn plus five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Florence was preceded in death by her brothers Merrill Tyler, Chester Tyler, Roger Tyler and her sister Thelma Ray. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Portland.
