Obituary of Leona A. Distel
January 6, 1928---- July 2, 2011 Leona (Sandy) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Dallas Retirement Village in Dallas Oregon. The only daughter and second child of Helen and William Klingel, she was born January 6, 1928 in Concrete Washington. Her brothers, Willard, William, Wesley and Matt survive her, and all live in the Seattle area. Sandy was married 17 years to Orville Mathews having her first daughter, Nancy Lee (Cadigan).In 1959 she married Richard Distel in Montrose, CO. They were married 45 years and had one daughter, Debra Lynn (Kogl). They lived in Ouray, CO for many years enjoying family gatherings, camping, playing cards, dancing, rock collecting, and most of all fishing. In 1978 Richard was in a serious mining accident and they found it necessary to move to Montrose to be closer to his doctors. For 26 years they lived in Shavano Valley. She always took pride in her appearance and her home. She was a beautiful woman. Sandy lost her beloved Richard in 2004. She then spent time in Akron Co with her daughter Debra and her family. Sandy moved to Oregon and spent her last months with her daughter Nancy in the loving care of the Dallas Retirement Village. Sandy loved sharing stories of growing up with all her brothers and sisters-in-law. Sandy was an amazing seamstress and had many talents that included cooking and canning. She loved bowling and spending time with her friends. Animals had a special place in her heart. If she was needed she was always there to lend a hand. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Crown Memorial Centers in Salem, OR. In lieu of a funeral, friends and family will celebrate her life by gathering in the hills of Montrose during Color Week in late Sept. She will be remembered by Nancy and Ross and their daughter Lisa and great grand children Taylor and Alyssa, Debby and Jody and their sons Dustin, Devin and daughter Scarlet and her husband Aaron and great grand children Atreyu and Aria. She will also be remembered by her four brothers, numerous In-Laws, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Rest in peace dear soul. You will be truly missed
