Obituary of John Joseph Perry
John Joseph Perry passed away June 29th, 2011 in Portland, Oregon at the age of 66. Born December 20th, 1944 in San Francisco, California, he was raised primarily in Livermore, CA. After serving six years in the US Navy he moved to San Francisco and later settled in Pacifica, CA. He earned his AA from San Francisco City College, followed by his BA in American Studies and MA in Education, both from San Francisco State University. On June 8th, 1968 he and Dorothy Brunner were joined in marriage. He worked as a teacher, principal, and district administrator for Laguna Salada Union School District in Pacifica, CA. He was later a faculty member at CSU Monterey Bay for CalStateTEACH. He was a past president of the Association of California School Administrators, member of the San Mateo Retired Teachers Association, and a former member of St. Peter’s Church in Pacifica. After moving to Beaverton, Oregon in 2006 he was a CASA volunteer for Washington County. He was an avid reader, gardener and traveler. He was an early adopter of every Apple product and a lifelong SF Giants fan. The most important thing to him was his family and friends, of which he had many. John is survived by his wife, Dorothy Perry of Beaverton, OR, by his son and daughter-in-law John & Melissa Perry of Albuquerque, NM, and by his daughter and son-in-law Christine & Greg Flores of Portland, OR. He is further survived by his grandchildren Dylan & Katie Perry and Colin & Emeline Flores. He is also survived by his sister Georgette (James) Johnston of Livermore, CA, his brothers George (Marilyn) Perry of Fremont, CA, Bill Perry of Tucson, AZ and Rick (Ardena) Perry of Sparks, NV and sister-in-law Joan (Steven) Dumpman of Chicago, IL as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Jim Perry. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6th, 2011 at St. Peter’s Church in Pacifica, CA. In lieu of flowers the family suggests making a donation in John’s name to a non-profit organization that benefits education, libraries or cancer research.
