Obituary of Mary Ellen Moyer-Hutcherson
Mary Ellen Moyer-Hutcherson died unexpectedly on May 3rd, 2011 in Portland, Oregon. She was 57 years of age. Born October 14th, 1953 in Hornell, New York Mary Ellen primarily resided in Jacksonville, Florida, moving to Oregon in December of 2010. A retired Commander in the US Navy, she achieved her BA in Nursing Science at Alfred University in Alfred, New York. She also gained her Masters in Nursing Science through the University of Phoenix, graduating Summa Cum Laude and was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. She was Professor of Nursing at Florida State College in Jacksonville, Florida, and was previously Assistant Nursing Director at Memorial Hospital, also in Jacksonville. Mary Ellen loved the outdoors, gardening, hiking, sewing, reading and theater. She believed strongly in Learn to Read and also supported Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Mary Ellen is survived by her son, Kevin Moyer of Jacksonville, FL and by her step-daughters Denise (David) Nefe of Greensboro, NC, Jill McBride of Jacksonville Beach, FL Tammy Morgan and Marisa Young. She is also survived by her former spouses Dennis Moyer of Neptune Beach, FL and Ricky Hutcherson of Jacksonville, FL. In addition, she is survived by her sisters Pamela (Tim) Ward of Fayetteville, NY, and Deborah (Roy) Wixson of Buffalo, NY and by her brothers Donald (Stormi) Elsenheimer of Venice, FL and Thomas (Laurie) Elsenheimer of Ontario, NY. She is further survived by 13 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Dorothy (Scott) Elsenheimer. A Memorial Service in celebration of Mary Ellen’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14th, 2011 at the American Legion Post 316, 1127 Atlantic Boulevard, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233.
