Elda Sherrick

Obituary of Elda Belle Sherrick

September 2, 1913 – April 30, 2011 Elda was born to William and Mary Agnes Wimer on September 2, 1913. She was the youngest of six in a family of hard working loggers. One day she wanted to help out her family and decided to drive a logging truck. Her brothers covered for her, but she was NEVER to do it again. That was only the beginning. Elda went on to become a strong woman in a “man’s” world. At a young age she became supervisor of the Silver Wheel Motor Freight Company in Portland, Oregon. She met and married Lyle Harless, he preceded her in his death in 1962. Lyle and Elda owned a Television business in Oregon City where she continued its operations. She met and married Jack Sherrick in 1973 and he preceded her in his death in 1996. They had traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Elda enjoyed knitting and was a perfectionist in each project. She loved to work in her garden, and was a prodigious reader using hair clips as bookmarks. She was reading as she was dying… she was 97. Elda will be remembered as a caregiver to her family. She set aside her personal life to give aid and comfort to family members in need. She will be missed by her many family members and remembered as a person who could overcome any adversity. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to River Valley Landing and Northwest Hospice of Oregon for their tender and loving care in her time of need. Elda is survived by her son Ron Harless; stepsons Don Sherrick (and wife Linda), Larry Sherrick (and wife Pat); stepdaughter Lacey Vogel (and husband Gary); grandchildren Jeremy Harless (and wife Kaaren), Jennifer, Mike, Doug, Chris, Matt Sherrick, Heidi Hausmann and Heather Cranor; 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Donations in memory of Elda may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Michael J Fox Foundation Parkinson’s Research, or to Hospice Care of the Northwest (www.hospicecarenw.com). Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Tualatin.
