Obituary of Tony Cledis Anderson
Tony Cledis Anderson May 6, 1943 – October 5, 2010 Tony Anderson passed away on October 5, 2010, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, in the presence of his loving family. He will be deeply missed by his family and all of those touched by his warmth, humor, and caring nature. Tony was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Cledis and Esther Anderson, and grew up on the family farm near the town of Hardy. Legend tells that he was driving a tractor just after his 2nd birthday. He discovered his green thumb and love of nature in the fields and prairies of north-central Iowa. He attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, Iowa and then moved to California with his cousin in a ’57 Edsel. He was drafted into the US Army in 1965. After his military service, he moved to San Francisco, where he met his lifelong love, Carolyn Chandler. They wed in 1969, and their first son, Jacob, was born to great joy in 1973. They moved to Iowa in 1975. Their second son, Jordan, arrived to give Jake a playmate in 1977. In 1986, the family relocated to Oregon, where Tony would happily spend the rest of his life. He worked in a range of fields, with time spent as a banker, butcher, and insurance agent. But he his found his true passion creating and refining gardens, and worked in landscape design and services for Willamette Landscape during the final segment of his career. From childhood, Tony loved music of all kinds. Over the years, with groups as diverse as the Portland Symphonic Choir and the Fort Dodge Barbershop Chorus, he enjoyed everything from Bach to yodeling. He will be remembered as a man of unique comic talents, a loving and loyal husband, and a caring and supportive father. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his sons, Jacob (Joanie Lunsford) and Jordan (Sarah Buckley), and his brother, Alan. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dwight. A memorial service will be held at 2PM on October 16, 2010 at Community of Hope Lutheran Church, 27817 SW Stafford Road, Wilsonville, Oregon.
