Obituary of Edward Russell

Ed Russell of Lake Oswego, OR died August 28th after battling Alzheimer’s disease. He was 76. Ed was born on December 20, 1933 in Santa Ana, CA where he grew up and acquired his sunny, warm personality. He attended Occidental College (class of 1955), served 4 years in the navy, and graduated from Harvard Business School in 1961. He had a long career in the food industry as the VP of Marketing for Lamb Weston and Tree Top, Inc. He met his wife of nearly 49 years, Dorie Cragg, on a blind date in 1961 and they married that same year. They moved to Lake Oswego in 1974 where they raised their two daughters, Jennifer and Sara. Ed was an avid tennis player and could often be seen at the Mountain Park Racquet Club. He was an aficionado of classic films and excelled at spotting the most obscure celebrities. He used an economy of words, but could find just the right one to express something truly thoughtful or to deliver a really good “zinger.” Ed's wry sense of humor and generous heart were greatly appreciated by his friends and family. He will be missed. He is survived by his wife, Dorie, and daughters, Jennifer Weber (Craig) of Lake Oswego and Sara Dewey (John) of New York, and three grandchildren, Ben, Katie and Gordon. A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Oswego Heritage House, 398 10th St., Lake Oswego, OR on Saturday, October 16, 2010, from 2:00 – 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Portland Providence Hospice or the Oregon Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
