Obituary of Douglas McKinley Hewitt

December 29, 1958 - August, 1, 2009 Place of birth: Los Angeles, CA Primarily raised in: Portland, Oregon Moved to Oregon from: Chino, California in 1973 Fiancee: Catherine Koenig Hobbies/Activities: U.S. History, especially the Civil War period, cooking, music and genealogy. Church/Organizations/Clubs: A long-time attendee of David's Harp in Portland where he gained great support and friendship from friends and staff. He was at one time awarded a "Certificate of Appreciation For Recognition Of His Valuable Contributions". He recently began attending the program LifeWorks in Gresham where he continued gaining deep friendships among both staff and other participants in the program. He also attended the Eastminster Presbyterian Church where he planned on marrying the love of his life, Catherine. The warmth of the congregation's fellowship and Minister brought Doug much peace and comfort as well as reading the Bible before going to sleep each night. Survived by three sisters and two brothers. Service type: Cremation. Ashes will be scattered along with his mother's ashes in the beautiful Great Northwest which they both dearly loved. Memorial Contributions: Gifts can be made either monetarily or in the form of volunteering or advocacy to the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI). Arrangements were by Crown Memorial Center in Portland.
