Obituary of Leonard J. Eide

1938 – 2010 Leonard J. Eide, more commonly known by his lifelong nickname, Buzz, passed away in the morning hours of Sunday, August 8, 2010 at the age of 72. Buzz was born to Thelma and Jake Eide on April 19, 1938, which just so happens was his sister’s 3rd birthday. He grew up in Portland, OR where he attended St. Rose elementary school and Central Catholic High School. As a youngster, he was an avid roller skater and won the 1948 national boys speed skating championship at the age of 10. As a teenager, he grew to love golf and became a caddy at Colwood Golf Course. In 1956 Buzz joined the US Marine Corps, in which he served honorably for 10 years, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. Following his service in the Marine Corps, he went to work as a grocery checker, eventually becoming a store director for Albertsons at the Cully neighborhood store. In the early ‘80’s, Buzz started a firewood business that would grow to be one of the largest in the Portland area. His strong work ethic and attention to detail showed in all of his endeavors and he could always be counted on to lend a helping hand to those most in need. Buzz leaves behind his wife Bonnie, sister Margaret, son John, daughters Bridget and Amy, 7 grandchildren, niece Holly and nephew Butch. He was preceded in death by his son Leonard Eide, Jr. Services will be held with full honors at Willamette National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 1:00 p.m.
