I was fortunate to know Marcia, and through her the Carillilo brothers and Dean La Rose, sons of whom she was both fiercely protective and justifiably proud. Marcia adopted Portland as her final home around the same time I did in the latter 1970's, and I enjoyed the challenges of her sharp analytical thinking in several political studies and action groups in Portland in those exciting times. Marcia's then-pioneering work in the creation of the Rape Relief Hotline was far ahead of the attitude and behavior changes of cops and prosecutors--and helped to bring it about; as did her service as Director of what is now known as the Portland Women's Crisis Line. The entrenched guardians of the social order had much to fear from this powerful agent of change. While they might not miss her nipping at them endlessly to do the right thing, those of us who were lucky enough to join her in those struggles will miss her clear voice dearly.

My dear friend of almost 40 years! We fought the good fight together and you treated me as an honorary family member. I'm glad I retired 4 years ago, because we got to spend even more great times together! You were a beautiful Warrior Woman, protecting and caring deeply for your family, and for the helpless in this difficult world we live in. I will always love you and treasure your memory.

Grandma, I was so lucky to meet you and have you in my life before you left this world. I was grateful that you met my daughters, your great grandchildren, and that I had the chance to tell you I loved you before you were gone. I'm so proud to be your granddaughter to carry on your strength, courage and love of family. Rest in Heaven. Love, Rachel & Steve, and girls.

Dear Gramma, I am so proud to be your granddaughter, you were such an amazing woman and so full of love. Forever I will miss your big hugs, and I will continue to live in love for you. Thank you for all of your children, who made many more children, and those children making more after that. You were at the start of such a huge crazy loving family. You will be sorely missed. Rest in paradise my sweet, sweet Baby Gramma, you deserve it.
