Obituary of Dorothy Ann Bennett Long Kishpaugh

Dorothy lived a life of enthusiasm, humor, adventure, leadership, friendship, compassion and dedication to family and community. She passed away on one of her favorite party dates, New Year's Eve, surrounded by family. Dorothy was the youngest of the five Bennett children: sisters Marie Sayer and Nancy Ruppe and brothers Walt and Glen Bennett. Dorothy was an early beauty, becoming a junior Rose Festival Princess in Portland. She graduated from Washington High School and Oregon State University, where she was an active member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. After college Dorothy went into the Management Training program at Meier & Frank. She became the youngest buyer hired at the time and enjoyed success for several years. Dorothy was also a founding member of the Portland Fashion Group. She married Bill Long in 1960 and they joyously, but unexpectedly, welcomed triplets David, Tracy and Dana a few years later. An early entrepreneur and business leader, Dorothy went back to work part-time in 1965 for Clair's Young East – a women’s clothing boutique in the Westmoreland neighborhood. She subsequently purchased the store, named it Clair’s, and expanded to five boutique locations throughout the Portland area. Later in life, Dorothy became a wholesale manufacturer's clothing representative, which was well suited to her outgoing nature. In 1997 she married Terry Kishpaugh, who became an active partner in her business. Together they shared a love of travel, golf and visiting her children and grandchildren. Dorothy's great loves in life were meaningful work, travel, close friends and family. She traveled to South America and Europe, loved Hawaii, and spent happy times golfing and relaxing in Palm Desert, CA. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Terry Kishpaugh; children David Long and wife Kim Sibraa Long, Tracy Suckow and husband, Doug Suckow, Dana Long and husband Michael Mathews; grandchildren Isabelle, Melissa and Brigette Long, Colin Suckow, Lauren and Gillian Mathews, as well as lifelong friends Bill Long and his wife, Marjorie Braker.She was also a beloved aunt, sister and friend. We will miss most Dorothy's positive outlook on life, her beautiful smile and partnership in fun and adventure. She loved life, lived big and always welcomed a great conversation over a glass of wine. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed but will live on within our hearts forever. A celebration of life will happen this coming spring or summer.Her family will provide details later.
