Obituary of Jean Maxine Hitt
Jean Maxine Hitt
Jean Maxine (Olmsted) Hitt, age 85, of Lake Oswego, Oregon passed away peacefully on November 9, 2019 in Happy Valley, Oregon. She was predeceased by her husband, Gene, on September 13, 2019.
Jean Hitt was born in Eden, Washington to William Lawrence Olmsted and Frances Bliss Olmsted on February 8, 1934. She attended Laurelwood Academy in Gaston, Oregon where she sang in the Choir and performed in the inaugural year of the Rhythmettes, who gave the boys in the Pep Band some friendly competition for stage time. Upon graduation in 1952, Jean worked as a secretary at Consolidated Freightways in Portland, Oregon. It was there that her future mother-in-law, Mae Elizabeth Hitt, introduced her to Gene Hitt and his twin brother Jack Hitt on a blind, double date. She married the love of her life, Gene Hitt, on April 27, 1957 in Roseburg, Oregon. Throughout Gene’s twenty year military career, he and his family served their country in the Continental United States, Alaska, British Columbia, and Germany before finally settling in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
Jean and Gene were married for 62 years. They raised a family of three children: Cheri Bosserman (John), Bill Hitt (Bonnie) and Jim Hitt (Debbie); five grandchildren: Christa Wolfe (Justin), Melissa Bosserman, Hillary Hitt, Nolan Hitt and Carley Hitt; and three great-grandchildren: Sadie Wolfe, Olivia Wolfe, and Emma Wolfe. Additionally, Jean is survived by her brother Robert Olmsted, sister-in-law Thuy Hitt, and many nieces and nephews.
Jean loved camping, fishing, crossword puzzles, gardening, spending time with her family, and took great pride in her needlework projects. She shared her love of nature with her grandchildren by teaching them about the native plants, birds, and wildflowers of Oregon. Jean was a loving mother and grandmother, and we will miss her greatly.
The family of Jean Hitt wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the loving care providers of the Princeton Village.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held at the Willamette National Cemetery on Friday, November 29, 2019 at 12:30 pm (12:30 pm assemble at main gate lot to drive to pavilion, 1:00 pm service start time).
Memorials may be given to the Oregon State Parks Foundation in memory of Jean Hitt.
