Obituary of Janice Anna Hutton

Janice Anna Hutton was born on November 28, 1940 and died twenty-two days before her 79th birthday on November 6, 2019. Janice was born in Gloversville, New York to Walter Burton Sr and Anna Rhodes. She was the youngest of six children. She attended Gloversville High School until her Senior year. The family moved and in 1958 she graduated from Lennox High School in California. In 1959 she married Dennis Walter Haffey. Their daughter Julie was born in 1961. The marriage ended in divorce in 1963. In 1968 she married Maurice Edward Arnold and gained Deane and Glenn as step-sons. The marriage ended in divorce in 1980. Janice once said about husbands, “I knew how to catch them, but I didn’t know what to do with them once I got them home.”. She finally figured it out and in 1981 she married Clair Harlan Hutton in Lincoln Nebraska. She gained two more step-sons Jerome and Burton Jon. Clair and Janice originally met and fell in love in 1964. The time wasn’t right and they went their separate ways. Both ended up married to someone else. However, Janice still exchanged letters with Clair’s sister Sharon for all those years. When she wrote and told Sharon she was divorced, Sharon left the letter open on her table to make sure Clair just happened to read it. Since Clair was also single again, he contacted Janice and an Oregon to Nebraska long distance romance began. Clair finally decided it was cheaper to marry her than to date her by telephone. It had taken seventeen years, but they finally married. Clair and Janice resided in Arkansas for twenty years in Gentry and Siloam Springs. They owned Three Mile Estates. They moved to Oregon in 2001. Janice was a enthusiastic hostess. She loved to be with people sharing good food, coffee, laughter and lively conversation. Her pastimes were knitting, crocheting, sewing, games on her laptop, home canning, travel, Facebook, and acting as official photographer at family events. She was at various times in her life a waitress, travel agent, real estate broker, owner/operator of a trailer park, assembly line worker, meat packer, and a secretary. But what brought her the most pride and joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and great-grandmother. Her battle against lung cancer began in 1999. The following years were filled with surgeries, chemo rounds, remissions, hospital stays and doctor visits combined with prayer and an unshakable positive attitude. Janice wanted every heart beat possible. She received excellent medical care and advice over the years and her family are so grateful. But by far, her best advocate and caregiver was her husband Clair. She is predeceased by step-son Burton Jon Feinberg, her parents, both former husbands, brothers Daniel and Walter Jr, and sister Betty. She is survivied by her husband Clair Hutton. Her children: Julie and David Fuge of Oregon, Jerome and Marilyn Feinberg of Texas, Deane Arnold and Deborah Wright of Ohio, and Glenn and Mary Arnold of New York. Her grandchildern: Laura and Kamil Samad of Gresham and Megan and Nick Spencer of Dayton. Great-Granddaughters: Aria Spencer and Baby Samad due in 2020. Her brother Jim Rhodes of Oregon and sister Marion Hill of Pennsylvania. Many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Also dear friends and neighbors including, but in no way limited to, Dennis, Deb, Kathy, Bob, Marlene, Mark, Ginia, Barb, Bernadine, Claude, Laurie, and Pauline. Per her wishes there will be no funeral services. Janice has been cremated and burial arrangements will be determined at a later date. Janice spent many happy hours working at the Dayton Community Food Bank. A donation to this organization would be a lovely way to honor her memory.
