Obituary of Frances Joan Madore
Frances Joan Madore, age 72, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2019. Daughter of the late Francis “Frank” Jennings and Elsie Milligan, she was born March 11, 1947 in Somerville, Massachusetts. She is survived by her children Julie Bockelman, Laura Darling, Stephen Madore, and Elizabeth Madore, her grandchildren Chalina Madore and Noah Madore, sisters Elsie Souza and Mary Wilson and brother David Jennings.
Fran married Paul Abraham Madore on March 19th, 1965. They had 6 children together and were married for 40 years, until his death in 2005. She also endured the loss of 2 of her sons, Jeffrey and Mark Madore.
Since 2008, she lived in Portland, Oregon, enjoying time with her children Stephen and Elizabeth, her grandchildren Chalina and Noah, and her long phone chats with her daughter Laura from New Hampshire. She valued time with her family above everything and was a selfless and giving person who enjoyed taking care of others.
After focusing on family for years, she returned to school, earning her degree in accounting while working in office management for a Women’s Re-entry Program. She continued working in management until she retired.An avid learner and aspiring writer, she loved word and trivia games, math puzzles, reading, cooking, writing poetry, bird watching and the companionship of her cockatiels-Eliot & Maynard. A known foodie of the family, she was often looking up new recipes for family gatherings. If you ever spent any time with Frances you likely saw a book in her hand, and it was almost always a Mystery novel, her drive and knack for problem solving made the genre exciting to her. Having studied Latin in school, she was a master of words and the undefeated champion of Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit at family gatherings. Her skills and passions live on in her grandchildren, Noah is a speed reader and gifted speller and Chalina is an incredible musician and artist.
Frances lived a modest, simple life and took great pleasure in the little things. She was very kind and intelligent, listened attentively and appreciated different perspectives. She was pleasant, easy going and a calming, grounding presence and a joy to be with. She is so deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
A private memorial service will be held in her honor with family and friends.
