Obituary of John Lloyd Yeamans

John Lloyd Yeamans was born to Harold “Pug” Yeamans and Thecla (Irwin) Yeamans on March 31st, 1956 in Nampa, Idaho. He was joined in his family by two sisters Cheryl and Deana. John was born with club feet and his family moved to the Portland area so they could be closer to the Shriner’s Hospital. He had numerous surgeries and started school there. During his childhood John was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church along with his cousins. John graduated from John Marshall High School in 1974. He met Susan Hagerman and they were married in Milwaukie on August 12th, 1978. They soon welcomed daughters Mindy in October 1979 and Holly in December 1982. He became a proud grandpa in 2000 and 2001. John worked since he was 16 years old starting at Southeast Fred Meyer as a parcel, then holding many positions and at many locations during his 41 year tenure. He transferred to Oregon City Fred Meyer in 1993 taking the position of Grocery Order Clerk/Freight Crew Boss until his retirement in May 2013. He was well known as Papa Smurf to all his crew as he looked over them as if they were his children. After retirement he worked as a Shuttle Van Driver for Days Inn then Candlewood Suites until his death. John loved the sport of bowling and joined many leagues/teams during the years. He bowled with his Oak Grove Fred Meyer coworkers for almost a decade at Kellogg Bowl. After this he joined several leagues and teams over the last twenty years. He also belonged to the Portland Bowling Association holding many board positions including Board President. John also enjoyed adult softball during his younger adult years and watching his grandchildren play baseball and swim on their teams. Survivors include his wife Sue Yeamans, Daughters Mindy (Yeamans) Ferriss and Holly Yeamans, Son-in-law Sean Ferriss, “Adopted” Sons Kenneth and Jonathan McKinney, Grandchildren Kaitlyn Rose and Kaleb Jay, his numerous Fred Meyer Grocery Crew members, his sisters, 6 nieces, 4 grand nieces, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved dog Babs. A public memorial service will take place Saturday October 19th at Noon. Warner Grange 10100 S New Era Rd Canby, OR 97013 Private interment will be in St. Patrick Historic Cemetery in Canby, OR. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in John Yeamans’ name to Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Portland, OR.
