Gene Hitt, age 88, of Lake Oswego, Oregon passed away peacefully on September 13, 2019 at his care home in West Linn, Oregon.
Gene Hitt was born in Crane, Texas to Bruce Smith Hitt and Mae Elizabeth (Strain) Hitt on February 14, 1931 along with his identical twin brother Jack. He attended Oregon State University obtaining a Bachelor Degree in Business. Upon graduation in 1954, Gene enlisted as an Officer in the U.S. Air Force. He married the love of his life Jean Maxine (Olmsted) on April 27, 1957 in Roseburg, Oregon. Throughout Gene’s twenty year military career, he and his family served their country in the Continental United States, Alaska, British Columbia, Germany and Thailand. While still serving in the U.S. Air Force, Gene went on to receive his Masters Degree from the University of Southern California School of Engineering. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Air Force in 1974, Major Gene Hitt, began his second career as a programmer in the emerging information technology sector in the banking and health care industries.
Gene and Jean were married for 62 years. Their love produced a family of three beautiful children:Cheri Bosserman (John), Bill Hitt (Bonnie) and Jim Hitt (Debbie); five talented grandchildren:Christa Wolfe (Justin), Melissa Bosserman, Hillary Hitt, Nolan Hitt and Carley Hitt; and three joyful great-grandchildren:Sadie Wolfe, Olivia Wolfe, and Emma Wolfe. Additionally, Gene is survived by his sister-in-law Thuy, and many nieces and nephews.
Gene loved camping, spending time with his family, and took great pride in working in his yard. He has gifted us all with the memory of his infectious smile and unforgettable laugh. He was truly a joyful man and we will miss him immensely.
The family of Gene Hitt wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the loving care providers of the Willamette Falls Adult Care Home.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Gene’s life will be held at the Willamette National Cemetery on Monday, September 23, 2019 at 2:00pm.
Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project in memory of Major Gene Hitt.
