Obituary of Bruce Allen Brown
Bruce Allen Brown, was born to the late David and Carol Brown on December 22, 1955 in SanFrancisco, California. The year, 1955, was, incidentally, the same year Disneyland opened. But more on that later. He grew up in Pacifica, CA with his much loved little sister Pam (Elliott) and graduated from Terra Nova High School in 1974. During that time, he began his relationship with Jesus and came to know him as his Lord and Savior. Desiring to know Him better, he moved to Portland, OR to attend Multnomah University (at the time, Multnomah School of the Bible) and graduated in 1977. He began attending Community Bible Fellowship and formed a close bond with those in his fellowship group. It was there he met Starla Gustafson and they were married in 1985. He also began attending nursing school at Clark College in Vancouver, WA and received his Associates Degree in Nursing. This began his career as a registered nurse for which he was perfectly suited due to his compassion and ability to connect with his patients. He worked in positions at Bess Kaiser Medical Center, Providence St. VIncent Medical Center, Kaiser Rockwood Clinic and finally spent the last ten years of his career as the Director of the Health Occupations Program at Springdale Job Corps. He was greatly loved by his students. Shortly before he became medically disabled in 2015, he also filled in as the school nurse at Reynolds High School for a semester and enjoyed those students, as well.
On his birthday in 1987, his first child, Tabor, was born, a birthday gift which was never equalled! In 1990, his daughter Annika was born. She, too, was the light of his life. He was determined to raise them to know Jesus and was so thankful that they both chose to follow Him at a young age. He was also determined to tutor them in all things Disney, which he loved passionately. Tabor took his first trip to Disney World before he could walk, the first of many trips to Disney parks throughout their childhood. Family vacations were an annual mandatory event and in them Tabor and Annika additionally experienced the wonders of Yosemite, Yellowstone, British Columbia, and the amazing sights of their native Oregon. Those are cherished memories. But even more cherished than those were the marriages of Tabor (to Amanda Tompkins in 2010) and Annika (to Bryce Walker in 2012) , such wonderful additions to his family. Perhaps the ultimate joy, though, was the births of his grandchildren, Elias, Lucy, Judah, Nora and Rowan. His love for them was palpable and incontrovertible.
In 1994, Community Bible Fellowship planted a church in the Gresham area, Clear Creek Community Church. Bruce and Starla and the kids made the move from Portland and settled in Troutdale to be a part of this work. The people of Clear Creek were family to Bruce. He served as a deacon there, went on several mission trips to Mexico, and was the lead Christmas decorator. Bruce went home to be with Jesus on September 7, something he looked forward to with much anticipation. He is now enjoying the life for which he was created.
