Obituary of Michael Ray Callahan

Michael Ray Callahan Born: 8-29-1957 Deceased: 9-6-2019 Born in Coronado, California to Alfred & Sandra they lived the Navy life and traveled for most of his childhood. Then settling in Vancouver, Washington where he graduated from Evergreen High School in 1977. He entered the Army during peace time with service overseas in Germany. The structure of Army life helped him in dealing with undiagnosed Asperger’s. In 1983 he met and wed his wife Beverly K. Walbaum October 21, 1983. They were devoted to each other for almost 36 years. When Mike met Beverly he was attending Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, Oregon. After marriage they visited the coast and mountains of the Pacific Northwest. He continued with general studies and entered an apprentice program in sheet metal work.He worked various jobs throughout the years in factory production, janitorial and light industrial. His favorite place of employment was Crosspoint Northwest in Milwaukie, Oregon since September 2010. He was working there after the diagnosis of thyroid cancer when he left on leave unable to continue his duties. He died at home after 4 months of hospice care at the age of 62. He gave his life to Jesus and became a Christian at an early age in a Nazarene Church. He joined an Assembly of God church in 1983 where he met Beverly. He taught Sunday School and was the Children’s Church Pastor, drove the church van and worked as a janitor, participated in fundraisers and helped with groundskeeping. He volunteered in his grandchildren’s school classrooms when able, liked to study the Bible and did extensive reading, He enjoyed Jeopardy because he was very good at trivia. He liked movies with superheroes, science fiction and suspense. He had a quirky sense of humor and made many people laugh and smile throughout his life. The coast of Oregon was his favorite place to visit. Tigers were his favorite animal but the house cats were his pets. He is survived by his wife Beverly Callahan. His children Sarah, Timothy and Tamara. His four grand daughters Sandra (Abby), Alivia, Ziva and Luella that he was absolutely smitten with. His two sisters Lorna Derheim and Terry Callahan. His mother Sandee preceded him in death, as did his grandson Chazz and his favorite housecats Marilyn and Buttercup. Mike’s committal service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery September 19, 2019 at 2:00 pm where he will receive military honors. Everyone is welcome to attend.
