Obituary of Maximiliaan Coenraad Melger

Max C. Melger, 89, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2019 at the home he shared with his daughter in Happy Valley, Oregon.Max was born in Java, Indonesia.He moved to the Netherlands where he met his wife, Francina Bassie.They would have 6 children in Holland before moving to the United States and settling in Medford Oregon where they had another child. Max was a ship’s engineer in Holland before coming to the United States.Once in the US he would go on to work for PP&L as an electrical engineer which is where he eventually retired from.He loved to hunt, fish and camp and in his last days he talked of going fishing again.He will be most remembered for his colorful storytelling of all his wonderful adventures in his long life.Everyone who met him was the recipient of many great stories of his days growing up in Indonesia, his years as a father of a very large family and his advice to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He will forever be missed by his loving family. Max is survived by his 2 children Maria Meyer of Naples Florida and Maxina Melger of Happy Valley Oregon and his 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.His wife and 5 of his children preceded him in death. Max will be laid to rest with his wife Francina at Memorial Gardens in Medford Oregon. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America.
