Missing you terribly. Will cherish all the little scraps of paper I have with drawings of our construction projects and think of you every morning when I make my espresso. I could not ask for a kinder Brother and Friend.

We lived down the street from James and Sara. James loved to cook & we shared many excellent meals with them. James was also a big book collector, and given his breadth of knowledge, he must have read all of them. He was a gifted architect and made the Cottage into an oasis. After his move to Oregon, he always made a point to share time with us when he visited Oakland. We will treasure our memories of all the good times we had with him.

I was a fellow student of Jim’s at MHCC. He was a really great guy, and I’m so sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family.

Team Fisher raced all around the world and were frequent racers at all tracks on the West Coast. Jim was first a fan, than a frequent, valued part of our team, pitching in especially when we were racing at Delta Park in Portland or Kent International in Seattle. I have sweet memories of dear Jim in his blue Lotus Europa, helping us out, even driving our chief mechanic to the airport with the 80 pound toolbox on his passenger's lap! We loved playing together and sharing the comraderie of a traveling racing team. Jim was a good man. Bobby Fisher, Randy Coons, Steve Jennings, Dennis Hartelius, and the rest of Team Fisher will always remember Jim. Condolences to his family from all of us.

My name is Abigail and James was my friend and neighbor. We would talk about Art and Movies. He loaned me the Gumby series. I am 10 and hadn't heard of it but enjoyed it alot. :) James was a very nice man and he knew so much about so many things. I loved talking to him while he worked on his Zen garden. He made such a pretty place. I will also miss seeing his face when I gave him a painting I made for him. He said he really loved them. My family and I will miss him deeply.

Whenever I saw him, he always had a smile. His sense of humor and wonderful storytelling will be greatly missed. I know I am not alone when I say he was One of a Kind, and I'm sure wherever he is, he is enjoying it to the fullest and helping those, with him in spirit, see the joy he so obviously experienced throughout his lifetime! Thank you for allowing us to share in his memorial.

I was his engineer for awhile when he was practicing in the Bay Area. Unfortunately, as it did with me, the Great Recession got to him and his practice, forcing him to leave and work with his brother in Portland. I, too, miss his tongue-in cheek humor and far-reaching intellect. He was, indeed, one of a kind. And I, too, am sorry to have lost contact with him once he left the Bay Area. R.I.P., James.

Jim was my housemate and classmate in Berkeley. He later invited me to work with him on at least one architecture project here in the Bay. I remember his wry sense of humor, his earnest, humble way with words, as well as numerous nights when he busted out his pasta machine and single-handedly elevated the culinary sophistication of our household and all our friends. I remember as a 21 year old wondering just how he ended up with such interesting and smart women. Looking back I see exactly how. I considered James a dear friend, and i regret having lost touch when he left the Bay Area. I am glad to hear that he was happy in his return to Portland, and just devastated to hear of his passing. My heart goes out to the family.

James was also my housemate and classmate at UCB, together with Geoff. There was always something very together and cool about James, like James Bond with West coast design and cooking. And he did know how to make a martini and attract those women - and he loved strawberries. I remember his story of moving from Portland to the Bay Area but didn't know about these latest years. He really was a milestone in our lives in Berkeley - we looked up to him without even realizing it. A great friend and, as our friend Richard said, he cared. Miss you Jim.

Driving down from Seattle to Portland today with Hank (Victoria, BC), to meet Geoff (Berkeley), to say good-bye and celebrate James. Some people really stick with you, even if you haven't seen them for 30+ years. We were a foursome once. Spent those formative years in architecture school together. James was so generous, interested and supportive. In 1985 I was about to head to grad school at the UW. He offered to take me to see Seattle "on his way home" to Portland. Stayed a night or two with his family outside of Portland, then with a sister outside of Seattle. He shared his enthusiasm, showing me around Seattle, and I've been here ever since. Wish I had kept in touch. If I knew he was racing cars in Kent I would have certainly come and watched... or checked-in during many visits to Portland. He was a special and wise man, gone way too soon.
