Obituary of Gilbert Dean Wasserzieher

Gilbert Wasserzieher passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 in Woodburn, Oregon at the age of 84. Gilbert was born on June 18, 1935 in Brainerd, Minnesota to Edward and Hazel Wasserzieher. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1958 and joined the Air Force as an Occupational Therapist. He had many duty stations, including Texas, England, Alabama, New York, and Alaska. While stationed in England he met a beautiful nurse named Dorothy. They were married on June 8, 1963. Gilbert was passionate about cars; he collected antique automobiles as well as model cars and car literature. His prized automobile was a 1938 Rolls Royce, acquired in England while serving in the Air Force. Gil completed a bicycle tour of Europe while in college, and shared many travel adventures with his wife Dorothy. They especially loved visiting Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and had many fond memories of time spent there with family and friends. He fulfilled a lifelong dream of building a house on the lakeshore in Minnesota near his childhood home, moving there with Dorothy from Alaska in 2012. Gilbert also enjoyed woodworking and researching family history. He was always warm and welcoming and easily made everyone he met feel at home. Gil was preceded in death by Dorothy (his wife of 55 years) and his brother Harlo. He is survived by his four children (Bruce, Beth, Karen, and Paul), his brother Ken, 11 grandchildren, one great grandchild, three nieces, and three nephews.
