Obituary of Hans Jurgen Dahm

Hans was born in Gross Alsleben East Germany, in post WWII Germany to Horst and Marianne Dahm. At the age of 10 in 1956 Hans’ family including his 7 year old brother Karl escaped the severity of the Russian occupation of East Germany in an escape to the American sector of West Germany.During the families escape Han’s father was shot in the back protecting Hans from Russian gunfire. The Family then immigrated to the United States where they settled in Newberg, Oregon as the family was sponsored by benefactors from the Pendleton Woolen Mills. Eight years later Hans enlisted in the United States Marines and served honorably for his adopted Country in Vietnam. Hans received a number of medals though the medal he was most proud of was his M 14 Sharpshooter Medal.Hans was then trained as an auto body repairman where he worked for a number of the larger auto body repair shops in the Portland metro area until his retirement. Hans loved to listen and engage in conversations with all types of people and always had a smile on his face and a kind word for all.Most of all Hans loved his family and always was grateful to the country that gave him freedom “America”! Hans is survived by his Son Hans Dahm Junior; Son Shawn Pierce (Larissa) and Daughter Angela Flores (Daniel); Son Adam Luke Dahm; Nephew Bryan Hostetler; Niece Heather Peckham (Daniel); Great Nephew Malakai; Great Niece Dakota.Brother predeceased him in 1996 and Daughter Kimberly Ann in 1970. Hans will be laid to rest with full U.S. Marine honors at 9:30A.M. On July 29, 2016. Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 S.E. Mr. Scott Blvd.
