Obituary of Martin Anthony Hayes

Martin Hayes was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Marcelene Hall. Throughout his youth, he enjoyed a close relationship with his many siblings, and his grandmother & grandfather Schramm. Martin loved to travel, and took to the road on his beloved motorcycle after high school. He attended college briefly, but always pursued knowledge as a lifelong learner. He enjoyed exploring the world around him and discovering what life had to offer. In 1986, Martin married Deborah J Nelson. He cared for Deborah’s daughter, Manda, as his own. The family grew when the couple had two more daughters—Glenna and Alison Hayes. Martin loved his family above all else. Later in life, this included his canine companion, Shivers. Martin was a great mechanic who found joy in learning how things function. He worked on machinery of all kinds, from small tools and cars to large construction equipment. He was a hard worker, and spent much of his life using his skills and knowledge in order to care for his family. Martin will be remembered as a resilient man who survived life’s many difficult challenges. We will look back fondly on his strong sense of humor and down to earth personality, which enabled him to make friends with people from all walks of life—no matter where he was. There will be a celebration of Martin’s life in Courtland, Nebraska around Memorial Day 2020, attended by his family and loved ones. Martin will be interred with the remains of his mother. Final dates and arrangements will be made soon; if you would like to be notified of these details, please let us know.
