Helen Tuggy

Obituary of Helen Dauphine Tuggy

Helen was born in Caripito, Monagas, Venezuela at 3:40 PM on August 15, 1950 (the same day as Princess Anne, she was always amused to recount). Both parents, Edward Tuggy and Eleanor Kellogg Tuggy greeted her at each end of this life’s journey. She moved to the states permanently in 1967 and graduated from high school in Santa Barbara. From there she went to Columbia Bible College in South Carolina, returning to Westmont College in Santa Barbara where she graduated. University of Notre Dame granted her a scholarship to earn her PhD in clinical psychology. In 1982, Helen moved to Portland for her internship at the VA hospital. She loved the Northwest and made it her home. She also loved being a psychologist. After working in a mental health clinic for several years, she established a private practice that she maintained until 2014. Her health would not let her continue the work that she enjoyed. She is survived by her beloved, Wanda Tucker and HoneyBoy; daughters, Julie Thacker (husband, Rob) and Janelle “Inanna” Kennedy (partner, Kenechanh Khongsavanh); brother, Bruce Edward Tuggy (wife, Susan) and their children, Stephen, Luisa, Nathan, Rachel, and Benjamin. Celebration of Life will be held on July 20, 2019 at 2 PM at Leedy Grange Hall, 835 NW Saltzman Road, Portland, Oregon. All are welcome.
